<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the helical scan type VTR which stably conducts a variable speed reproducing. SOLUTION: The winding range of a magnetic tape against the peripheral surfaces of an up drum Du and a down drum Dd is set more than 180/N degrees (where N is the number larger than 2) which is the angle viewed against the both ends of the winding range of the tape on the drum peripheries from the center of the drums. Moreover, rotary magnetic heads Ha, Hb, Hc and Hd are provided at the positions which are determined by equally dividing the peripheral surfaces of the drums by 2N. During a variable speed reproducing, even though the central shaft of the drums is tilted so that the angle defined by a reference edge Te of the magnetic tape, which is wound to a portion of the surfaces of the peirpheries of the up and down drums, and the rotary locus surfaces of the heads Ha to Hd are matched with the normal track angle of the recording track of the tape, the gap between the position control surface of the edge Te formed on the top surface of a read ring Lr of the device and the edge Te is made small. Thus, the position of the edge Te of the tape is surely controlled by the position control surface of the ring Lr during a variable speed reproducing. Furthermore, the recording and reproducing operations by the magnetic tape, which is made of the base material that is thin and has a lower rigidity, are conducted without any problems.</p> |
