The relay (24) contacts normally (b) connect the motor (12), via a power unit (14) with electronic control (16), directly to the battery (20). Through the relay coil (26), the logic unit (28), with inputs from the capacitor bank voltage (U) and a directional current sensor (36), selects the alternative contact position(s) when preset conditions are met. The motor supply circuit then includes, in series with the battery (A-B-C), the supercapacitor unit (22). Basically, capacitors are included during regenerative braking and periods of acceleration, provided the bank is charged within its operating range. The circuit provides (44,46) for the connection of an on-board or external battery charger (38). As regenerative braking generally does not fully recharge the capacitors, a separate, battery-dependent, charger (34) is used. |
