PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the load of a CPU or the like, enable recognizing the congestion by the number of facing cars, and improve usage by installing a switching means which operates or does not operate the facing car detecting function, in preference to the automatic stoppage function for halting the facing car detecting function at the time of specific running condition. SOLUTION: An automatic stoppage means R1 halts the facing car detecting function when it is detected that a self car is running on, e.g. a high level road, a road having central separation belt, a double track road and a city street. On the other hand, a switching means (manual switch) operates or does not operate the facing car detecting function, in preference to the automatic stoppage function R1. When facing car detection is stopped by the automatic stoppage means R1, the load of a CPU or a computer is reduced. When In preference to the automatic stoppage means R1, the facing car detecting function is compulsorily operated by the switching means, congestion condition can be recognized by the number of facing cars. When facing car detection is unnecessary, the facing car detecting function is turned into the not-operated state, in preference to the automatic stoppage means R1. |
