PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new azo dye having a specific coupling component derived from aniline series, and useful for dyeing or printing synthetic materials. SOLUTION: This azo dye is shown by formula I [ X is O or NR<6> (R<6> is H or a 1-13C alkyl); R<1> is a 1-13C alkyl or substituted phenyl; Y is H, a halogen or cyano; Z is nitro or cyano; R<2> is a 1-4C alkyl, methoxymethyl or a substituted phenyl; R<3> is H, a 1-4C alkoxy or 1-4C alkyl; R<4> and R<5> are each a 1-13C alkyl], and is obtained by preferably using a dinitroaminoaromatic compound of formula II as diazo component.
