<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motion vector coding method by an MPEG-4 that is suitable for enhancing the coding efficiency by reducing an overall bit rate. SOLUTION: An object having a least difference is selected among three candidate motion vectors, and its difference and a mode bit are transmitted. That is, one candidate having a least bit rate for motion vector coding is selected (S601) from among the three motion vector candidates, a motion vector prediction error and prediction mode information are sent to a decoder (S602), a minimum bit rate for coding a motion vector difference is estimated (S603) and minimum rate prediction is used to code (S604) a motion vector with respect to X, Y components.</p> |
