CONTROL METHOD OF MAGNETIC TAPE DEVICE AND MAGNETIC TAPE DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method of a magnetic tape device, in which data are directly-read-after-written on a magnetic tape, and to detect data overwrite and left data in a magnetic tape device. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a running mechanism 13, a magnetic head 4, which has a writing element 15 and a reading element 16, a writing format circuit 22, which supplies writing data to the element 15, a reading format circuit 21, which checks the read data from the element 16, and a control circuit 20 which stores the running position of the mechanism 13 in accordance with a gap out signal GAPOUT. In accordance with a direct-read-after-write command, the element 16 reversely feeds a magnetic tape 12 to the position, where last block data are read, and then, the tape 12 is fed in a positive direction. When the element 16 reaches to the position where the last block is read, a read start signal R-GAPIN is generated in the circuit 21. When the element 15 passes through the last block, a write start signal W-GAPIN is generated in the circuit 22.
