PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pharmaceutical composition having biodegradability and biocompatibility, easy in the control of a rate for releasing a medicine, capable of continuously exhibiting the pharmacological effect of the medicine for a long period, and containing a matrix comprising hyaluronic acid and a specific polymer or a specific metal ion as a carrier. SOLUTION: This pharmaceutical composition controlled in a rate for releasing a medicine is prepared by including (c) a medicine in a matrix formed from (a) a biodegradable and biocompatible polymer and/or a polyvalent metal ion and (b)hyaluronic acid or its salt. The component (a) includes one or more kinds of substances selected from the group consisting of polypeptides, polyamino acids, cationic polysaccharides and polyvalent metal ions. The component (b) preferably has a viscosity-average mol.wt. of 600,000 to 2,000,000.
