PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slag coating method which can stably coat the slag over the whole circumference of the inner surface of a converter surely to the height of the furnace opening hole part. SOLUTION: In the slag coating method executing a bottom-blown gas in the converter having a bottom-blown tuyere, the gas flowing rate is controlled with the slag thickness or the slag quantity so that a slag spattering quantity index shown in the equation becomes <=1 under staying condition upward to the furnace opening hole part of the converter. Wherein, W is the slag spattering quantity index,ρ1 is slag sp. gr. (kg/m<2> ),ρg is bottom-blown gas density (kg/Nm<3> ), Q is bottom-blown gas flowing rate (Nm<3> /hr), (n) is number of the bottom-blown nozzles, (d) is diameter of the bottom-blown nozzle (m), L is slag thickness (m), H is height from the molten slag surface to the furnace opening hole part (m), (g) is gravity acceleration (kg/m/s<2> ) and A,α,β,γare constants. A=5×10<-12> -10×10<-12> ,α=3.5,β=-7.2 to -7.0,γ=-7.2 to -7.0.
