The transmitter has a dome shaped housing (31) containing a rotatable shaft (32). A measurement scale is on the shaft. A terminal box (33) is arranged at the side of the housing, radial to the housing and to the shaft. The box has an electrical connection (35) for a cable or plug.A connection box (37) operating as intermediate unit between the sensor of the transmitter and a passive connector box (38). The connection box (37) is connected to an integrated intelligent interface. The intelligent interface is e.g. a bus node
