PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the thrust and performance of a super ram jet mode by providing a means for storing the air shunted in the ram jet mode, and burning part of the fuel of an engine with the stored air before injecting the fuel into a main engine system in the ram jet mode. SOLUTION: This hybrid engine 1 is provided with a means 10 for storing the air shunted from a main air-flow F in a ram jet mode and a means 11 for burning the fuel stored in a tank R1 with the shunted air stored by the storing means 10 before the fuel is injected into a main engine system in a super ram jet mode. Part of the hydrogen from the tank R1 is burned by the stored air in the super ram jet mode, and the temperature of the remaining hydrogen burned in a combustion chamber 8 is increased. Energy is fed as a result, and the thrust and performance of the hybrid engine 1 in the super ram jet mode is increased.
