FIELD: fiber optics. SUBSTANCE: optical fibers are made of silicon dioxide as base material with core and sheath, as well as with one or more refraction-improving dopes in core. Novelty is that core has, in addition, neodymium combined with fluorine or praseodymium combined with fluorine. Material for core and sheath is produced as result of phase-by-phase reaction by forming complex from neodymium fluoride or praseodymium fluoride and other compound which is conveyed in steam state together with source materials of phase-by-phase reaction to substrate so that product of phase- by-phase chemical reaction and complex are evaporated on it. Optical fiber is used for manufacturing optical fiber amplifier for wave band of 1300 nm. Transmitting properties of such optical fiber are more effective for this band than for other wave bands. EFFECT: improved refractive index and transmitting properties of optical fiber. 11 cl, 2 dwg
