<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the compressibility and image quality of an image by discriminating the characteristic of an area which is included in an inputted image and is for image compression, changing the discrimination degree of a local area included in the area in accordance with the characteristic and also changing a compressing method of the area in accordance with the characteristic of the area. SOLUTION: This processor is provided with a means which decides the characteristic of an area which is included in an inputted image and is for image compression, a means which changes the discrimination degree of a local area included in the area based on the characteristic and a means which changes a compressing method of the area in accordance with the characteristic of the area. For instance, in a digital camera, a CPU 111 controls the whole and a preprocessing part 103 performs geometric correction, etc., of data that is picked up. A macro area discriminating part 105 discriminates a macro area of an image that is picked up and a local area discriminating part 107 discriminates a local area included in the macro area. Also, an adaptive correcting part 113 performs appropriate correction of the local area and a compressing part 119 performs compression in every macro area.</p> |
