<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a digital signal encoding method for improving encoding efficiency by reducing a code quantity for quantization width as much as possible by not including a code word indicating that the quantization width of an encoded object small unit varies from its last value in encoded data. SOLUTION: When quantization width is described by small units in encoded data, the encoding efficiency becomes inferior, so a moving picture encoding system (MPEG-1) describes a code word indicating variation in quantization width in the encoded data only when the quantization width varies and describes the value of new quantization width only when the code word is present. When a method which does not include the quantization width in the encoded data is applied, the code word indicating the variation of the quantization width is eliminated in the encoding data, thereby making the encoding quantity smaller. Namely, the code word of the value of the quantization width is eliminated and the code indicating the variation in the value of the quantization width is deleted to improve the encoding efficiency.</p> |
