PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of overflow and frequent underflow of image data that are compressed and then transmitted. SOLUTION: In this compression transmission method, a data compression means 202 compresses individually image data of plural frames received continuously by a data input means 201 and provides an output of the data by one frame each continuously while a data storage means 203 stores temporarily the data of a prescribed number of frames. Furthermore, a capacity detection means 216 detects a capacity of the image data of the prescribed frames that the temporarily stored and controls a compression rate of the data compression means 202 accordingly. Thus, the capacity of plural image data that are compressed and continuously outputted is kept nearly constant so as to prevent the occurrence of overflow and frequent underflow of the image data.
