PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method capable of preventing a battery from discharging during the lockup of an automatic transmission. SOLUTION: A signal of the terminal voltage 5 of a battery is inputted to a control unit 4 performing upshift control and lockup control of an automatic transmission according to a vehicle speed signal, a throttle opening signal and the like, and if, during the lockup of the automatic transmission, the battery terminal voltage becomes equal to or lower than a predetermined voltage, either the lockup is undone or a downshift is made.
