PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid unnecessary ink ejection at a time when detecting the missing of ejection of ink in the case where color recording is performed on a recording medium by ejecting ink drops of plural colors based on image data. SOLUTION: The number of ejected dots is counted by each color by a main controller of a main device (a counting means, a comparing means and a judging means) and the counted value and a threshold for ink counting preset by each ink are compared with each other. An ink missing ejection detecting section (ink presence/absence detecting means) 021 ejects the ink in accordance with the compared result and judges whether or not detecting of the presence or absence of the ink of each color is executed. Then, the detecting of the presence or absence of the ink of each color is executed in accordance with the judged result.
