<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change a data format in accordance with a transmission destination in the case of transmitting image data by an electronic mail and to perform mail transmission of the image data in various data formats by deciding a data format corresponding to the terminal device on a transmission destination side based on an externally inputted transmission destination and converting image data into the decided data format. SOLUTION: A CPU: 101 decides whether or not a command representing relay transmission is included in a transmission destination. Because it is relay transmission when the command is included, image data inputted by a scanner 108 are converted into a TIFF data format. Since it is direct transmission when the command is not included, the image data inputted by the scanner 108 are converted into a data format corresponding to a transmission terminal selected among TIFF formats.
