<p>A hub assembly (Figure 3) for a bicycle wheel is comprised of two spaced flanges (2, 4) for connection to the spokes of a wheel and a tubular center section (3). One flange (2) is provided with a circular array of holes for mounting a disk brake rotor. The opposite flange (4) is provided with an internal spline (23) axially aligned and housed within the hub. Said spline slidably engages with a spline (25) on a ring pawl member (5), which has ramped teeth (26) on a surface facing a tubular sprocket carrier (6). The teeth (26) on said ring pawl member (5) interact with corresponding teeth (27) on said tubular sprocket carrier (6) to create a uni-directional clutch mechanism. Said tubular sprocket carrier (6) is also provided with external splines (29) to accept industry standard toothed sprockets. The clutch mechanism and bearings (10, 12) are arranged so as to allow a large diameter sleeve axle (1) to fit unrestricted within the confinement of the industry standard drive sprocket's internal splines. A large diameter (20 mm or larger) through axle (18) can then pass through said sleeve axle (1) with no restrictions.</p> |
