PURPOSE: A device and a method for driving a steering system for a motor vehicle are provided to secure precision and safety to a steering stopper by minimizing the moving force being initiated by an actuator before the steering stopper arrives. CONSTITUTION: A steering system for a motor vehicle contains at least one steering wheel(15a,15b), actuator(13,23), and one overlapped gear set(12,22). Herein, the steering system is formed for a steering moving power(delta L) being initiated by a driver through the overlapped gear set and a moving power(delta M) being initiated by the actuator to be overlapped to a steering stopper(C) being installed in the steering system beforehand for generating a steering moving power(delta V) of the steering wheel. Therefore, the moving power being initiated by the actuator is reduced to zero before reaching the steering stopper.
