PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt supporting device of a moving footpath, which is capable of improving comfort by reducing the spongy feeling of a floor surface caused by the use of a rubber belt, greatly reducing power losses not only during idling but also during actual running conveying eassengers, and prolonging a life by reducing the abrasion and tension of a tread belt. SOLUTION: Between belt supporting rollers 7, an endless roller chain 12 extended along the longitudinal direction of a going side belt 5a and a roller supporting guide 14 extended along the lower surface of the upper roller of a roller chain for guiding a roller while supporting it along a belt are provided. The roller chain is provided with an attachment 13 supported by a pair of free sprockets rotatably in the moving direction of the going side belt, and having a belt supporting surface 13a formed flat. The supporting surface 13a has a small gapδrelative to the going side belt 5a when no passengers are conveyed on the belt, and it is brought into contact with the belt and moved supporting it when passengers are conveyed on the belt.
