PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an additive for antifouling coatings which decreases the attachment of oyster shells, marine organisms such as seaweed, etc., saves fuel, yields a long adhesion-time of the coating, simplifies the application process and causes no ocean pollution by toxicity. SOLUTION: An additive used as an additive for antifouling coatings mainly comprises a mixture of a monazite powder and a tourmaline powder, each having an average particle size of from 3 to 10μm and regularly releasing minus ions, wherein the mixing ratio in the mixture is from 60 to 40 wt.% tourmaline powder against from 40 to 60 wt.% monazite powder.
