2-INDANEMETHANOL DERIVATIVE, ITS USE, PERFUME COMPOSITION, PERFUMING PRODUCT, PRODUCTION OF THE SAME DERIVATIVE AND STARTING COMPOUND FOR THAT PURPOSE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new 2-indanemethanol compound comprising dimethylindanemethanol or the like and useful for perfume, eau de toilette, after-shave lotion, cosmetics, soap, shampoo, conditioners, hair care products, bath jelly, shower jelly, deodorant, air-cleaning agents, detergent or the like. SOLUTION: This new compound is expressed by formula I (wherein, R1-R4 are each H or a 1-3C (un)saturated alkyl except for the case that R1-R4 are all H) and is e.g. 2,5-dimethyl-2-indanemethanol, 2,5,6-trimethyl-2-indanemethanol or the like. The compound of formula I is obtained by the hydrogenolysis of an indanone of formula II (obtained by reacting aldol with formaldehyde).
