PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which is low in cost and enables an effective color display to be performed. SOLUTION: A minimum constitution unit of LED 4 comprises three LEDs, a monochromatic LED red, a monochromatic LED green and a monochromatic LED amber. These three LEDs constitute one set and the sets are physically arranged in a 4×4 matrix. Each of the monochromatic LED red, the monochromatic LED green and the monochromatic LED amber is lighted by being turned on/off under the control of an LED controlling circuit 5 using signal lines.
