PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound useful as a material for organic luminescent materials having high color purity, capable of obtaining luminescence having high brightness and high efficiency in driving at low voltage and excellent in stability in repeated use. SOLUTION: This compound has a partial structure of formula I [Q is an atomic group necessary for forming a 5-6 membered ring; X is the group C-Ra or N; R11 to R16 and Ra are each H or a substituent group; Y is the group CO, SO or SO2; and (m) is 0 or 1], and is e.g. a compound of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained by dissolving 2-methylquinoline, 1,8- naphthalimide and zinc chloride into N,N-dimethylaniline, heating and stirring the solution, adding aqueous hydrochloric acid solution thereto and heating and stirring the solution to afford a compound of formula III, dissolving the compound of formula III into methanol, adding sodium methoxide-methanol solution thereto, dropping methanol solution of zinc acetate dihydrate thereto and heating the solution under reflux.
