PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a solution-polymerized (styrene-)butadiene rubber which has good physical properties on braking forces, abrasion-resistant performances and fuel costs, when tires produced from the rubber are used, by polymerizing butadiene and, if necessary, styrene in the presence of a specific polymerization initiator in a specific solvent. SOLUTION: This method for producing solution-polymerized butadiene rubber or styrene-butadiene rubber comprises polymerizing (A) 1,3-butadiene and, if necessary, (B) styrene in (D) a non-polar hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of (C) a compound of the formula (R' is a 1-3C alkyl; Bu is butyl) whose molecular end is modified with an amine compound or the like. The component C is produced, for example, by reacting highly effective secondary butyl lithium with a precursor such as 1-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)-1-phenylethylene, 1,1-di(4- dimethylaminophenyl)ethylene or 1,1-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)ethylene.
