<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress an increase in ATM cell assembling delay without exerting any adverse influence on other multiplexing devices using the same transmission line even while a small number of short cells are inputted. SOLUTION: The signal multiplexing device is equipped with signal discrimination parts 131 to 13n which discriminate which of a voice signal and a FAX signal an input signal is, voice encoding/FAX demodulation parts 141 to 14n which encode or demodulate the input signal with high efficiency, short cell generation parts 151 to 15n, a queue buffer 16 which stores short cells, a multiplexing part 17 which multiplexes short cells and outputs standard ATM cells, and a storage time control part 18 which monitors the load on a transmission line and controls the storage permissible time of the queue buffer 16.</p> |
