OPTICAL FIBER CONNECTING GLASS PART AND ITS MANUFACTURE, MANUFACTURE OF PREFORMED GLASS FOR THE PART AND THE GLASSPART

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the manufacture of a glass part for connecting an optical fiber, a method capable of improving the dimensional accuracy of the through- hole of same glass part. SOLUTION: An optical connector for an optical fiber is constituted of a glass-made cylindrical ferrule 20, which is provided with a small diameter through-hole 21 on the longitudinal center axis. A plurality of optical fibers are held in the through-hole 21 and abutted on each other in the end face. The cross section of the through-hole 21 is a shape selected from a group consisting of a polygon, oblong, ellipse, connected circles and connected squares. The ferrule 20 is produced by heating and stretching the preformed glass having a cross section roughly similar to that of the ferrule 20 with the through-hole 21 on the longitudinal center axis.
