摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economical radio communication system that can flexibly cope with increase/decrease in the number of subscribers at a great distance from an exchange. SOLUTION: In the radio communication system, a central control station 2 and a plurality of base stations 4 (4a1-4ap) are in radio connection via at least one relay station 3, and the central control station 2 and the relay station 3 are in radio connection by the TDM system and the relay station 3 and the plurality of the base stations 4 (4a1-4ap) are in radio connection by the TDM system in an outgoing transmission direction and by the TDMA system in an incoming transmission direction, respectively. The communication service can be provided even to subscribers 5 (5a-1-5ap-1) scattered remotely from an exchange 1 through the installation of the relay station 3. Since both radio transmission channels 106 interconnecting the relay station 3 and a plurality of the base stations 4 and radio transmission channels 107 interconnecting each base station 4 and a plurality of subscriber terminals 5 contained therein adopt the multiple access system, the economical communication system that can flexibly cope with increase/decrease in number of the subscribers is realized.
