PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition, which is extended in the working temperature range of liquid crystal display characteristics, is reduced in drive voltage and is improved in its temperature change, by mixing, as an essential component, a compound selected from those of specific two groups in a liquid crystal composition. SOLUTION: The nematic liquid crystal composition is composed of three liquid crystal components A, B and C. The component A is, respectively, selected from at least one compound from group A1 including compounds of formulas I and II and also from group A2 including compounds of formulas III to VII. In the formulas I to VII, R1 represents a 1-10C alkyl group or the like; Q1 represents F, Cl or the like; W1 to W6 independently represent H, F, Cl or the like; K1 to K6 independently represent a single bond, -COO-, -CH2O- or the like; a ring of A0 represents 1,4-phenylene or the like; rings of A1 to A4 independently represent 2 or 3-fluoro-1,4-phenylene or the like; and k1 to k4 are independently 0 or 1. The component B consists of a compound having a dielectric anisotropy of +2 or over and is present in an amount of 0 to 99.9 wt.% in the composition, and the component C consists of a compound having a dielectric anisotropy of -10 to +2 and is present in an amount of 0 to 85 wt.%. The components (B+C) amounts to 0 to 99.9 wt.%.
