<p>The invention concerns a method for bending, compressing and jointing staves (d) to make barrel or cask shells. It consists, subsequent to the standard processes of cropping, planing, complete or partial grooving, optional shaping, in carrying out the following steps which consist in: setting the stave at the desired curvature along the longitudinal axis, by compressing the stave (d) along its thickness first at its centre (4) then gradually towards the ends (3) while simultaneously and gradually bending the whole stave; by compressing likewise in the longitudinal direction the fibres of the stave inner surface; while the stave has the desired curvature, compressing the stave over its whole surface to bring its initial thickness to an at least slightly lesser thickness, and while the stave has the desired curvature and after having more or less compressed its fibres over its whole surface, cutting (14) its joints along the desired radius for the barrel shell.</p> |
