PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of always obtaining stable light output intensity regardless of a circumferential temp. change to form an image having stable density. SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus such as a digital copier or the like for forming an image on a photosensitive drum by scanning with laser beam outputted from a semiconductor laser oscillator and exposing the photosensitive drum, light emitting level stabilizing control is performed with respect to both of the light emitting level of the semiconductor laser oscillator at a time when no image is formed and that of the semiconductor laser oscillator at a time when an image is formed so as to bring the light emitting levels to a predetermined value.
