PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically exchange developer by simple constitution and while achieving stable image forming conditions. SOLUTION: The developer is automatically exchanged by regulating the take in quantity thereof by using a take in regulation member 6 at a developer take in part 20 arranged at the downstream side of a developing area 18 in the carrying direction of the developer and discharging it to a recovery container 9 arranged under a developing container 2. The regulation member 6 is moved to a developing sleeve 3 side by a driving device 14 at a normal image forming time so that the take in quantity is adjusted.
