PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating matters contaminated with dioxins with high workability in which thermal conditions required for dioxins can be created easily and surely. SOLUTION: Lower section 2b of a chimney 2 is closed, granular fuel F and contaminated soil S are charged into the chimney 2, upper part 2a of the chimney 2 is closed, and openings 9 for allowing conduction of gas between the inside and outside of the chimney 2 are provided at the upper and lower sections 2a, 2b of the chimney 2. The granular fuel F is then fired and air is supplied from the upper conduction opening 9 and exhaust gas generated through combustion is sucked from the lower conduction opening 9 and treated.
