PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an AB-type block polymer, capable of producing a polymer containing the AB-type block polymer in which two polyolefins having different constitutions from each other are mutually bonded chemically so that the polymer is highly actively produced in an industrial manner to attain a broad molecular weight distribution. SOLUTION: This method of producing the AB-type block polymer comprises polymerizing an olefin in the presence of a compound expressed by the general formula: PO-MR1R2 (PO is a polymer chain formed by singly polymerizing or coplymerizing a 2-10Cα-olefin; M is a 13 group element; and R1 and R2 are each a H, a halogen or a 1-12C hydrocarbon residue, and the hydrocarbon residue may be crosslinked and may contain oxygen, nitrogen, or silicon atoms) so that a polymer chain having a different constitution from that of the PO segment in the general formula is formed from the above olefin.
