PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus therefor capable of efficiently mass-producing synthetic natural gas from inexpensive water and carbon as feedstocks. SOLUTION: This apparatus has such a scheme that an electrode holder 22 having an arc electrode 48 is supported inside housings 16, 18, a ring-shaped neutral electrode 23 is set up inside a housing 14 to provide an arc reaction chamber 76 having 1st and 2nd reaction zones Z1, Z2 between the electrode holder 22 and the neutral electrode 23, and the 1st and 2nd reaction zones Z1 and Z2 are packed with a granular hydrogen-forming means 78 for producing a hydrogen-rich gas and a granular carbonaceous material 79 for producing the objective methane-rich gas, respectively. |
