PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus therefor capable of efficiently producing a clean synthetic natural gas at low cost by reaction of carbon with hydrogen formed using inexpensive water as feedstock. SOLUTION: This apparatus has such a scheme that an electrode holder 22 having a plasma electrode 48 is supported inside housings 16, 18, a neutral electrode 23 is set up inside a housing 14 to provide a plasma reaction chamber 76, which is then packed with a granular carbonaceous material 78 followed by generating a plasma inside the reaction chamber 76 to activate the carbon of the carbonaceous material 78 and carry out a catalytic reaction between the carbon and hydrogen to obtain the objective methane. |
