PURPOSE: A device and method for finding the position of the portable wireless transmitter(wireless key) of a safety device is provided in a prescribed catching region, for instance, in an automobile. CONSTITUTION: At least two antennas arranged mutually spacedly and constituted so as to an electromagnetic signal to and/or from the wireless key existing a prescribed region are provided, and the working region of the antennas are solved by the device for covering the prescribed region and the method for transmitting a signal for exciting the wireless key in order of definition, for instance, in order of deviating every antenna, transmitting a key signal just after receiving the excitation signal by the wireless key, receiving the wireless key signal with the antenna, and estimating the position of the wireless key from the relation of the signal intensity of an incoming key signal to the antenna between the antennas.
