<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element having an excellent display characteristic in which an electric field leakage from a voltage control means for controlling voltage to be applied to a pixel electrode is interrupted completely and the disturbance of a display picture and the like are not caused and to provide a display device in which the optical element is used. SOLUTION: This optical element has a translucent light transmission plate which makes light enter from an end face and which guides the light, a light control layer which changes the characteristic of the light entering from the light transmission plate, a second electrode which holds the light control layer and which is consisting of a translucent first electrode which generates an electric field and plural electrode groups, a voltage control means for controlling the voltage to be applied to the second electrode and an electric field leakage preventing means for interrupting the electric field leaked from the voltage control means and, moreover, in this element, the electric field leakage preventing means is provided between the second electrode and the voltage control means through an insulating layer.</p> |
