According to the invention, an open bag is threaded onto three horizontal filling tubes (11-13) which are connected to a substrate supply (1) and which contain endless screws. A growing substrate in the substrate supply (1) is driven into the filling tubes (11-13) by the screws and exits through the outlet openings (14-16) in order to fill the bag, which is then carried by a conveyor belt (4) which moves in synchrony, downstream (22).
