PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the optical writing unit which can bring out the sufficient optical performance. SOLUTION: In the optical writing unit 1 equipped with an LD unit 7 having a semiconductor laser element 13 for emitting a light beam modulated according to a recorded signal, a scanning part 9 for scanning the light beam from the LD unit 7 on a photoreceptor 5 and a housing 11 for housing the scanning part 9, and which forms an image according to the recorded signal on the photoreceptor 5 by scanning the light beam on the photoreceptor 5, the housing 11 is equipped with a fitting hole 33 for attaching the semiconductor laser element 13, and the semiconductor laser element 13 is attached directly to the housing 11.
