<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waveguide type optical element wherein defects of the conventional waveguide type optical element having a ridge waveguide are conquered and an electrode and a pad can be connected in a planar shape without using a resin process or the like. SOLUTION: A waveguide of an optical element is formed of a ridge waveguide part which is formed as an almost stripe-shaped protruding part stretched in the waveguide direction, and a gain waveguide part for guiding a light in a gain region optically coupled with the ridge waveguide part. By forming a stretching part stretched from the gain waveguide part to a side direction of the waveguide, an electrode pad can be connected on a flat surface continued from an upper surface of the ridge waveguide part. Phase shift effect can be also obtained in the gain waveguide part.</p> |
