PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for treating an organic halogen compound- based harmful substance, capable of highly decomposing and treating the organic halogen compound-based harmful substance. SOLUTION: This method for treating the organic compound-based harmful substance is provided by decomposing and treating the organic halogen-based compound in a molten salt consisting of >=2 kinds of alkali metal carbonates selected from sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate and lithium carbonate, and >=1 kinds of alkali nitrate salts selected from sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate and lithium nitrate. It is preferable to keep the temperature of the molten salt at 400-600 deg.C, and blow an oxygen-containing gas for reinforcing oxidizing power and agitating the molten salt.
