PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer capable of rapidly printing an article like a wall paper or a woven fabric. SOLUTION: The ink jet printer comprises a passage along a base plate S to be printed, and an array of fixed ink jets each having a plurality of nozzles. The array has a plurality of rows of ink jet heads 12. The respective arrays extended across the passage and the rows are separated from each other in a direction of the passage. The printer also comprises a means for operating the heads 12 in response to a motion of the plate S. A movement of the plate is sensed by a sensor 20.
