PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an underwater detecting device which can be made compact and manufactured inexpensively by eliminating the need for a sound insulator and also applied to a wave transmitter/receiver of a special shape, such as a sphere. SOLUTION: In the underwater detecting device provided with an ultrasonic wave transmitter, in which a large number of oscillators K(1), K(2),..., K(n) oriented in a prescribed directions are arranged in the circumferential direction, by shifting the phase of a transmission signal added to each oscillatorΔθbyΔθ, phase control in the circumferential direction is performed, in such a way that the phases of the transition signals change by 360 deg. going a round once. Since the phase difference between transmission signals added to a pair of oscillators counterposing each other in the circumference becomes 180 deg. and cancels each other, it is possible to reduce the side lobe which occurs in the direction of water bottom.
