A flux-cored wire for the introduction of additives into a bath of molten metal comprises a metal sheath (5) containing an additive (6). The sheath is covered by an envelope (7) which, being combustible but without unwanted residues, momentarily delays heat propagation towards the core of the wire. Above this combustible envelope, a metallic protective sleeve encloses the assembly formed by the additive, the metal sheath and the combustible envelope.
