PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a supply cord rewind device for an electric vacuum cleaner capable of providing a user with the choice between the two cases of completely withdrawing a supply cord at one push of a cord button part and of withdrawing the power cord only when the cord button part is pushed. SOLUTION: In the supply cord rewind device for a vacuum cleaner, a cord reel is capable of selectively taking up the power cord by a brake part rotated by operation on the cord button part. The cord button part is provided with an automatic/semiautomatic button for selecting as to whether the power cord is automatically or semiautomatically taken up, a hinge pin provided for a reel cover, and an automatic release member rotatably provided in such a way as to be closely in contact with a rotation control protrusion protruded in a predetermined location in the reel cover via an elastic member such as a torsion spring fastened to the hinge pin.
