<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decode a variable length code in both the forward and reverse directions, even if a synchronous period is set to each prescribed period through the use of a stuffing code. SOLUTION: The recording medium of this invention related to data relating to a variable length code records coded data that are decodable in both the forward and the reverse directions and includes a code word of a configuration where delimiters of code words can be recognized, depending on a given weight and records data to which a stuffing code decodable in the reverse direction by each synchronous interval. Moreover, the data recording medium includes a procedure, where the recording medium records a code word table, in which code words including a code word of a configuration decodable in both the forward and reverse directions are stored, in cross- reference with an information symbol and delimiters of which can be recognized on the basis of a predetermined weighting; and a procedure where a code word in cross-reference with the information symbol received from this table is selected and a procedure, where coded data are generated by each synchronous period by the selected code word and the stuffing code decodable in the reverse direction is inserted to the coded data, to set the synchronous period to the code word.</p> |
