PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set an image signal to an appropriate level which is obtained by imaging, without having to use using diaphragms. SOLUTION: There is no diaphragm for the imaging device. A peak is detected at each vertical scanning period with a peak detection circuit 17. The peak value is given to a control device 20 and required control out of the control of the shutter speed of a shutter control circuit 19, the gain control of a preamplifier circuit 13, and the gain control of a GCA 16 is made according to the difference between an appropriate level and a peak value, thus making an adjustment, so that the level of an image signal obtained by imaging can attain appropriate level, without the control of the diaphragm.
