PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing anα-hydroxycarboxylic acid compound useful as an intermediate of a medicine for therapy of diabetic mellitus, or the like. SOLUTION: This method produces a compound or its salt expressed by formula (III) [R1 is a (substituted) hydrocarbon group or a (substituted) silyl group, ring E is an aromatic ring, (n) is an integer of 1 to 4, X1 is a halogen atom] by reacting a compound or its salt expressed by formula (I) [each symbol expresses same meaning to the above] with a compound or its salt expressed by formula (II) [R2, R3 and R4 are the same or mutually different and are each H, a (substituted) hydrocarbon group, R is a hydrocarbon group]. |
