HYDRAULIC CHAIN TENSIONER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain tensioner with superior responsiveness favorably allowing a valve element of a check valve to follow high frequency fluctuating load in a high speed rotation range of an engine. SOLUTION: A guide hole 2 and an oil feeding hole 3 opened in a bottom of this guide hole 2 are formed in a housing 1. A plunger 7 is incorporated inside the guide hole 2, and a return spring 9 and the check valve 10 are incorporated inside a hydraulic damper chamber 8 formed in its back part. An opening and closing amount of the valve element 16 in the check valve 10 is regulated to 0.3 mm or lower to enhance a following ability of the valve element to the high frequency fluctuating load applied from a chain to the plunger during high speed rotation of the engine and improve the responsiveness of the chain tensioner.
